ViequesLove purchased equipment to enable the nonprofit GenerationGives to team up with the local internet provider Fire-Fi to install internet in all of the public schools in Vieques after the storm. This enabled the teachers and administration to perform their daily tasks and make up for time lost due to the power outage.

Let There be Light!

Carmen x was the last person on Vieques to have power restored to her home. The cement post was destroyed which would normally carry the power from the grid to her home so even when the rest of her neighbors had power Carmen did not. ViequesLove is considering using the the firm to analyze and study Vieques readiness and mitigation opportunities.

Initiatives

School Support

ViequesLove provided cleaning supplies, paint, paper products, office supplies, first aid kits, generators and cisterns to the schools on Vieques. Ongoing initiatives will help to set up internet libraries, supply ceiling fans, and install lights on the high-school basketball court.

Sugarcane Pier RebuildInitiatives

Sugarcane Pier

ViequesLove purchased materials to rebuild the lower section of the Esperanza Sugarcane Pier allowing fishing boats to dock and recreational activities to resume. The pier is a Vieques historical gem and much loved by locals for jumping, fishing, snorkeling and swimming. Ron Solt and Pablo Connelly organized the volunteer effort to rebuild the dock.
